Description

The flight had been on its way from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to London Heathrow Airport. Due to fog at Heathrow the 747 diverted to Frankfurt, thereby beating its archrival TWA, which had planned to send the first 747 to Frankfurt.

Terminal 1 fully opened in March, 1972. This photo was taken in 1970–when part of the terminal was already put in use–and focuses on the east side of “Flugsteig B”, which was used by foreign carriers.
