Description

​In 1947, The Port of New York Authority (now the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey) took over the operation of New York LaGuardia Airport and the still to be opened New York International/Idlewild Airport. In December 1946, the Port Authority presented report plan outlining how to develop both airports. For Idlewild’s terminal, the report proposed two horseshoe-shaped terminals at opposite ends of the central terminal area: a large domestic terminal with 30 gates and a smaller international terminal with 12 gates.
